And the week just keeps on getting better… First, the bluest state in the nation, Massachusetts, elected Republican Scott Brown to fill the US Senate seat formerly held by liberal Ted Kennedy. Next, Democrats were forced to publicly admit (Link1, Link2) that they don’t have the votes to pass “Obamacare,” the Left’s healthcare money and power grab. Now, according to their own website, Air America radio — former home to liberal loudmouths like now-Senator Al Franken, Janeane Garofalo, Randi Rhodes and MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow — will be filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

Financial crisis and controversy are nothing new for Air America. In 2006, Air America filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and was bought by New York realtor Stephen L. Green in 2007. In 2005, Progress Media, the company formed to launch Air America, and its chairman, Evan Cohen, were caught in a financial scandal involving the misuse of funds from Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Clubs to Progress Media and Cohen.

Below are selections from the Air America bankruptcy announcement:

“It is with the greatest regret, on behalf of our Board, that we must announce that Air America Media is ceasing its live programming operations as of this afternoon, and that the Company will file soon under Chapter 7 of the Bankruptcy Code to carry out an orderly winding-down of the business.

[O]ur painstaking search for new investors… ultimately fell short of success.

[O]ur company cannot escape the laws of economics. So we intend a rapid, orderly closure over the next few days.

Starting at 6 pm EST today, we will provide our affiliates, listeners and users a selection of encore programming until 9 pm EST on Monday, January 25, at which time Air America programming will end.”

In somewhat related news, the ratings for Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, Glenn Beck and the rest of the Fox News Channel primetime lineup continue to exceed the combined numbers of CNN, HLN, and MSNBC, home to the lefty rants of Maddow, Keith Olbermann and Chris “Thrill Up My Leg” Matthews.
