Not long after banning WFTV’s campaign access, the Obama campaign has added another TV station to their blacklist for the same reason: asking something besides fawning softball questions of the Democrat candidates. This time, the victim was KYW-TV, also known as “CBS 3,” in Philadelphia. As with the WFTV in Florida, KYW’s reporters had the audacity to ask Biden whether he thought Obama’s “spread the wealth” comments could be viewed as akin to socialism. The result was the same: Biden hemmed and hawed and tried to obfuscate the subject and the Obama campaign banned the TV station’s access immediately thereafter. The big diffference, however, was the reaction of the respective TV stations’ management. While Bob Jordan in Florida stood up for his reporter by saying that they won’t ask softball questions, management in Philly caved in to Obama’s threats and wouldn’t even rerun the interview on their website.
This attempt at censorship — which sends a familiar shiver down the spine of WWII European refugees — is standard operating procedure for the Obama campaign. It is added to Obama’s police state tactics in Ohio, their attempts to silence critics like Stanley Kurtz and Obama’s personally-stated marching orders for his followers to confront and intimidate their friends and neighbors who are Republican or Independent.
How can the Left complain about the PATRIOT Act and then turn around and sanction this degree of un-American behavior? When you think about it, though, it all started with political correctness. The alleged “party of tolerance” is, in fact, utterly intolerant of any opinion that even questions left wing orthodoxy. Obama took it to the next level when he, on his own, made race an issue in the campaign in order to limit the amount and type of criticism that could be leveled against him. Now, we also have the aforementioned McCarthy-esque tactics and the Democrat-proposed Employee “Free Choice” Act (EFCA or “card check”) which, at its core, removes the American tradition of secret ballots and allows for union intimidation of workers. Reinstitution of the “Fairness Doctrine” is also being discussed as a means of silencing conservative voices.
While an Obama election and an out-of-control Democrat-dominated Congress could mean a rebirth of the Republican party and Independent critics, Obama has shown that he is willing and able to use the power of the US government to silence them. Combining that with a fawning, left-leaning media will make it quite difficult to learn what those in power are truly up to.
